Teaser Tuesday: Midnight Fires

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two "teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week my teaser comes from Midnight Fires: A Mystery with Mary Wollstonecraft, billed on the back cover as a delightful new arrival on the historical mystery scene, with a feisty, engaging heroine; an atmospheric and absorbing whodunit. From page 31:

Midnight Fires: A Mystery with Mary WollstonecraftGovernesses, she had heard, constituted one of the largest classes of insane women in asylums. The thought was not at all comforting.

  10. Thanks for all your fun comments, and to you, Lady Q: for bringing my novel, Midnight Fires, here to this delightful blog! And true, real life Mary Wollstonecraft nearly did go mad during her ten months as governess at Mitchelstown Castle in 18th c. Ireland! But she kept her sanity & later wrote her celebrated Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792), and went on to outwit the dimwits who called her a "hyena in petticoats." Cheers to all, Nancy
