Mailbox Monday: September 13

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. (Checked out library books don’t count, but eBooks & audio books do). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists!

Mailbox Monday, created by Marcia at The Printed Page,
is on a blog tour! This month's host is Bermudaonion.

I'm Back! I took a week off from blogging while I was on vacation. But while I was on vacation I managed to find a bargain book rack where I picked up these:

Mistress Shakespeare  The Widow's War

The Way To Bright Star  The Book of Atrix Wolfe

And I had two from publishers waiting for me when I got home:

RevolutionI'm excited about this one. A modern-day American teenager visiting Paris discovers the diary of a French girl who lived during the French Revolution. I'd like to see more historical YA in the midst of all the vampires and werewolves. ARC from Delacorte Press/Random House, for publication October 2010. From the back cover:

Two girls, two centuries apart. One never knowing the other. But when Andi finds Alexandrine's diary, she recognizes something in her words and is moved to the point of obsession. There's comfort and distraction for Andi in the journal's antique pages - until, on a midnight journey through the catacombs of Paris, Alexandrine's words transcend paper and time, and the past becomes suddenly, terrifyingly present.

The First AssassinFinished Copy. From Goldberg McDuffie Communications, published by AmazonEncore. From the publisher's description:  ...a historical thriller that transports readers back in time to 1861, a period rife with fear and uncertainty as a mysterious stranger enters the capitol with a deadly mission.
And I added a few more books to my collection of South Carolina and Charleston history and architecture.

  1. It wouldn't be a vacation if you didn't buy some books! Revolution looks so good - I hope you enjoy it. (We were in mourning around here after the football game yesterday.)

I saw the Donnelly book on Amazon Vine but hesitated, I'm not sure if it's a book for me. Curious what you do with The Widow's War. Good, but didn't rock my world either.
