This week my teaser comes from Jennifer Donnelly's Revolution, a novel about an angry and heartbroken girl living on the edge, verging on suicidal, who finds a kindred spirit and a reason to keep fighting in the pages of a French girl's 200-year-old diary. I'm halfway through and so far it's excellent. From page 199:
I don't like hope very much. In fact, I hate it. It's the crystal meth of emotions. It hooks you fast and kills you hard. It's bad news. The worst. It's sharp sticks and cherry bombs. When hope shows up, it's only a matter of time until someone gets hurt.

Sort of depressing, but that's exactly the kind of teaser that catches readers' attentions. It's emotional, provocative, sad, but a little true. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteI really want to read this book!
