Quick Review: Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night by Kresley Cole

Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night (Immortals After Dark, Book 3)From the Back Cover:

Bowen MacRieve of the Lykae clan was nearly destroyed when he lost the one woman meant for him. The ruthless warrior grew even colder, never taking another to his bed--until a smoldering encounter with his enemy, Mariketa the Awaited, reawakens his darkest desires. When sinister forces unite against her, the Highlander finds himself using all his strength and skill to keep her alive.

Temporarily stripped of her powers, Mari is forced to take refuge with her sworm adversary. It's rumored that no one can tempt Bowen's hardened heart, but soon passion burns between them. Though a future together is impossible, she fears he has no intention of letting her go...

My Thoughts:

Cole has an imaginative concept here, a world of supernatural creatures different enough to stand out from the crowd of paranormal romances. This is the third book in the series and it takes place during a high stakes supernatural scavenger hunt in the middle of a Guatelmalan jungle that also happens to be a fighting ground for drug cartels and terrorists. It's all rather over the top, but it is imaginative and exciting. (And steamy, too!) Mariketa and Bowen are fun characters, although I grew tired of their constant back and forth bickering over why they couldn't be together and the myriad supernatural rules and explanations that kept popping up everywhere. But overall I liked it and several characters are introduced in this book that have starring roles in later books, and my interest was piqued enough to want to read them.
