Teaser Tuesday: The Time of Singing

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two "teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! Share the title & author, too, so that others can add the book to their TBR Lists!

This week my teaser comes from a book I've wanted to read for a long time! Elizabeth Chadwick has become one of my favorite authors--I only wish more of her books were available in the U.S.! This one was recently released in the U.S., by the way, under the title For the King's Favor, and tells the story of Roger Bigod and Ida de Tosney, mistress of Henry II. I'm sharing two teasers this week. The first because it gives an early glimpse of Roger's personality and I just like the words. The second because I love Eleanor of Aquitaine...and I just like the words! (I dressed up as Eleanor for Halloween--click here to see!)

From page 22:

"Go!" Roger bellowed to his father's serjeants as he overtook them and slewed Sorel across their path, sword drawn. "I grant you your lives but leave the baggage. Otherwise let this field be your grave."

From page 200:

"Sons always leave you," Eleanor said. Her voice was hard and although her gaze held compassion, there was severity too. "Husbands are no better. Look to them for moments of joy, but do not invest your happiness in them, for they will squander it."

  5. Hi!

Love the teaser! I notice you have a history degree with an English minor. I have a masters in history and a bachelors in English. Both are the basis for a great education.

    Have a great one!

  6. Enjoyed the teaser but also wanted to say nice site! Who can resist a blog called 'Let them read books!' (I have a history degree too but have yet to combine it with my love of fictional writing. They've been too very different interests but that might be changing!)

Will pop back when I have some cake (& a cup of tea, of course)
    ;0)

My teaser this week is from 'The Standing Pool' by Adam Thorpe,
