This week my teaser comes from Across the Universe by Beth Revis: A Story of Love, Murder, and Madness Aboard an Enormous Spaceship Bound for the Future. I was stoked to get this young adult sci-fi ARC on Friday. This book is getting a lot of buzz. I devoured it over the weekend and I thought it was awesome. Here's a true random teaser from page 114:
He can feel the weight of the ship on him, just like I can. No--he feels it more. He's carried the weight longer than me, and he's carried it not just for himself, but the Elder before me who died and couldn't take over.
For just a moment, I see Amy through his eyes: as a problem.

Very intriguing! I have an ARC of this one and hope to get to it soon. I love the cover and the premise. I have two teasers this week. My YA teaser is from Trickster's Girl by Hilari Bell and my adult teaser is from Wolfsbane by Patricia Briggs. Happy reading!

Here is my teaser from Witchgrass: A Pipe Dream by Dave Wilkinson (Page 1):
ReplyDeleteMost gardeners hate witchgrass. Of all weeds it is one of the most persistent and adaptable. Any small piece of rhizome left in the soil can become an aggressive plant ready to take over the plot. Witchgrass is hard to pull. Roots are deep, and break off easily. Any part left in the ground will grow again. Farmers say the species isn't even good as hay, not as good as timothy or alfalfa. Some call it quickgrass.
Early New England colonists blamed evil people for this garden invader. In the seventeenth century villagers would speak this way:
"The surly woman living alone on her dead husband's estate. She goes into the woods and consorts with the Devil. Signs his book. Fornicates with him. Eats mushrooms. She and the Devil send witchgrass to harass the virtuous and the Godly. Let us hang this witch and seize her rich farm."
That's an awesome teaser! I've got this book on my list for next year and can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteExcellent teaser! I don't read much YA fiction, but this one sounds interesting.

I have been seeing this book around alot lately. Do you ever read the end of a book before you actually get there? Have you sneaked a peek at the last page or two to find out what happens? Or do you faithfully avoid the final pages until you’ve “earned” them by reading to that point?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good book - pretty cool cover too. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, interesting teaser and I love the name of your blog!
