Quick Review: The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley

From the Back Cover:

History has all but forgotten...

In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown.

Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next bestselling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write.

But when she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction, Carrie wonders if she might be dealing with ancestral memory, making her the only living person who knows the truth-the ultimate betrayal-that happened all those years ago, and that knowledge comes very close to destroying her...

My Thoughts:

What a Great Read!!! The Winter Sea has everything I like in a book, only this is even better because it's two stories wrapped up into one, with not one, but two heartswooning romances, and two happy endings! I've read other novels that flip back and forth between historical and present-day storylines, and in all of those instances I slogged through the present-day chapters longing to get back to the history. But in this case I enjoyed the present day story just as much as the past. I loved how the author wove the past and the present together as Carrie dreamed of the Jacobite invasion, finding inspiration for her novel, and then in her research discovered that her dreams were more than just dreams. I found that I really enjoyed reading about a fiction writer, and of course, I love anything set in Scotland! And it made me cry. I didn't want it to end. Very well done Ms. Kearsley! I've added all of her other books to my wishlist.

My Rating:  5 Stars out of 5
