Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. (Library books don’t count, but eBooks & audiobooks do). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists!
Mailbox Monday, created by Marcia @ A Girl and Her Books, is on a blog tour! This month's host is Mari Reads!
Five books found their way to my house last week, all of them via my hard-earned dollars!
I've wanted this book for so long, but it's hard to find, and it finally came up on Goodreads Swap. Mine! This is the prequel to her two-volume story of William Marshal, and it's about his father, John Fitzgilbert Marshal, who is known for doing some pretty heartless stuff. I can't wait to see how she humanizes this history baddie.
Kearsley is another author whose backlist is hard to find, but this is one of the few titles available on Book Depository, and I treated myself when they sent me a coupon. I loved her last book, The Winter Sea, and she's got a new one coming out this fall which I've already pre-ordered. Here's the blurb for Mariana:
Julia Beckett believes in destiny. When she moves into Greywethers, a beautiful sixteenth-century farmhouse, she suspects that more than coincidence has brought her there. The locals are warm and welcoming, especially the eligible squire of Crofton Hall, yet beneath the ordinariness, Julia senses a haunting sadness about her new home. Then she learns of Mariana, a beautiful young woman who lived there three hundred years ago. It seems history has been waiting for Julia.
And three historical romances. I love Susan Wiggs's Calhoun Chronicles and I've been wanting to read her Chicago Fire trilogy forever! Lucky me, my library had two of them on the sale cart for 50 cents a pop. Karen Hawkins is new to me, but the cover of Scandal in Scotland drew me in the grocery store and the back cover and first page sold me. It's my pool read this holiday weekend and I'm enjoying it very much so far!
That's it for me! Have you read anything in my Mailbox?
What did you get this week?
You received some fantastic books this week! I love Elizabeth Chadwick, although I've yet to read A Place Beyond Courage - will be doing so at some point in the near future though. Mariana is one of my all-time favourite novels. I hope you enjoy all your new books.
