Teaser Tuesday: Aftertime

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two "teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! Share the title & author, too, so that others can add the book to their TBR Lists!

This week my teaser comes from Aftertime by Sophie Littlefield. This was my first zombie novel and I really enjoyed it, particularly because the protagonist, Cass, is a wonderful character. She's become separated from her daughter and is fighting her way through zombie-infested country, reluctantly accepting the help of strong and silent hottie Smoke along the way. This is from page 109:

The breeze was indifferent to the Siege. It was the breeze of Before, and as Smoke lowered his mouth to her, slow and unstoppable, it occurred to her that the breeze had defied the Beaters, the famine, the routed, cracked and poisoned earth. It waited for night and then it came as it ever had and Cass welcomed it and drank it in.
