Teaser Tuesday: Touch of Power

This week my teaser comes from Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder: Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan assumes their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. That description alone is a teaser, isn't it? This is a real page-turner. Good solid fantasy with great characters. I really liked it and will post my review later this week. Meanwhile, from page 17:

    
     He unlocked the cell. The door swung open. By this time, I had reached the back wall.
     Straightening, he gestured. "Come on."
     I didn't move.
     "Do you want to be executed?"
     "Some things are worse than death," I said.
