Fandemonium: Diana Gabaldon

This past September I had the pleasure of meeting one of my favorite authors of all time, the one and only Diana Gabaldon, who appeared at a nearby mega Borders to promote the release of the highly anticipated seventh installment in the Outlander Series, An Echo in the Bone. (That's me on the left and my friend Lyn Rae on the right.) She spoke and answered questions for about an hour, was extremely funny and entertaining and then signed books and posed for pics.

One of my favorite moments:  Diana recalled being interviewed in Germany and the male interviewer asked her what the big appeal was about men in kilts and Diana responded: "I guess it's the idea that you could be up against a wall with one of them in about two seconds." I don't think any Outlander fan would mind finding themselves in that position with Jamie Fraser!

We also got the scoop on what's coming up: the eighth and final book in the Outlander series, the graphic novel which comes out later this year, and an Outlander prequel consisting of three novellas about Jamie's parents and the McKenzie clan.
Have you met any of your favorite authors?
I'd love to hear your stories!

  1. Oh how awesome! I'd love to meet Diana Gabaldon!

The only authors I've met are historians (definitely not best-selling authors known to many people outside of academia).

  2. Oh that's so true, yum Jamie Fraser. I met Diana a few years ago when she did a book tour here in Scotland and was amazed that the talk she gave was mostly attended by Americans living in Scotland. I think there was only 4 Scots in the room including me. Can't wait to read the new book.

  3. Diana came here last year but I wasn't able to go, and I was gutted! Next time I am going to try again to see her.

On another note, I just finished Roses today and really enjoyed it!

  4. Thanks for visiting my blog, ladies!

Diana's the Best! I also got to meet Sharon Kay Penman last year but didn't get a picture. I'll put up a post about it at some point, though.

Marg, I'll look forward to your review of Roses. I've been hearing GWTW tossed around a lot when people talk about it. GWTW is one of my favorite books of all time, so I get defensive when other books are compared to it! I'm wondering if it lives up to all the hype.

Wow, I had no idea what Diana Gabaldon looked like. I just started the Outlander series (loved the first book) and can't wait to read the next book! She sounds like a hoot :D

  7. OMG! You met Gabaldon! That had to be the ultimate "I've touched the Goddess" moment. You must still be reliving that moment.
