Teaser Tuesday: Here Burns My Candle

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two "teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! Share the title & author, too, so that others can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

This week my teaser comes from Here Burns My Candle, a family saga set during the 1745 Jacobite uprising in Scotland. This is a discussion book over at Royal Reviews. I haven't gotten too far along but so far so good. From page 104:

Here Burns My Candle: A NovelHe regarded her at length, as if memorizing every feature of her face. "I canna say when we'll meet again." For an instant, she saw the young boy she'd left behind in Braemar, standing at the door with his heart in his eyes. "Hail the moon for me, Bess?"
