Teaser Tuesday: The Count of Monte Cristo

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two "teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! Share the title & author, too, so that others can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

This week my teaser comes from The Count of Monte Cristo, Signet Classic Abridged Edition. In this scene Dantes, disguised as a clergyman, has just learned the fate of his lover, Mercedes. From page 131:

The Count of Monte Cristo (Signet Classics)"Well, that made eighteen months in all," said the abbe with a bitter smile. "What more could the most adored lover ask?" Then he murmured the words of the English poet: "Frailty, thy name is woman!"

  7. I've never read this book or seen the movie. I never paid much attention so I don't even really know what it is about!

  8. Have loved Dumas since the summer my grandfather gave me "The Three Musketeers". "The Count Of Monte Cristo" with its revenge theme took longer to grow on me, but now it is one of my favourite classics, both exciting and moving.

  9. I've never read the book, but saw the movie, but didn't care for it, however, it is my daughters favorite movie. So go figure, the saying.. like mother, like daughter, doesn't apply in this case. ; )
