Sunday Selections: Silent in the Grave

Welcome to Sunday Selections, a meme devoted to sharing and discussing our favorite quotes and passages from our favorite books. If you'd like to share a selection, please leave a comment with a link to your post.

To say that I met Nicholas Brisbane over my husband's dead body is not entirely accurate. Edward, it should be noted, was still twitching upon the floor.

This week I'm sharing the opening lines from the first book in one of my favorite series, the Lady Julia Grey mysteries by Deanna Raybourn.. A blogging friend posted this as her Teaser Tuesday last week and I was reminded of what a wonderful opening it is. Not only do I think this has got to be one of the best first lines ever, but it also sets the tone marvelously for what is to come: a murder mystery with a one-of-a-kind heroine, and the beginning of one of my favorite love stories. If you like your heroines smart, witty, and inclined to mischief, and your heroes dark and brooding, this series is for you!
